The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the effects of income inequality, government efforts and confidence in government on life satisfaction over 19 OECD countries, and to draw some policy implications. Through analyses using life satisfaction data from Gallup World Poll combined with Gini coefficient data from OECD statistics database, it found that first, income inequality is the deteriorating factor, second, the efforts of government to mitigate income inequality through taxation and income transfer is a significant positive determinant, third, confidence in government is also a statistically significant determinant for life satisfaction in positive way. Therefore, for S. Korea, it would be essential to exert efforts to mitigate income inequality and enhance the confidence in government.
